About Matt Watson
A BBC 6 Music supported artist, his 'observational' songwriting style sees him deliver an intriguing blend of alt folk meets indie. The musical lovechild of Graham Coxon and Billy Bragg if you please.
A burgeoning live reputation, recent years have seen Matt share stages with artists such as Billy Bragg, Miles and Erica (The Wonder Stuff), Ian Prowse, Julian Cope and also Feargal Sharkey's infamous The Undertones. Festivals appearances include Latitude and the prestigious festival Folk East. Matt is also a contributor to local charitable causes. In 2017, he toured venues all along the East Anglian coastline - on foot! He walked 134 miles with his guitar, fundraising and gigging at events along the way.
Previous releases include two critically acclaimed albums which were independently released with help from the Pledge Music crowdfunding platform and is currently working on a new album for release in early 2019 on the Tontena Music label. The label will also be releasing two singles from the album this autumn, starting with Outside (They Don’t Know Who I Am).
The album promises to be a creative mix of styles further developing Matt’s already heady mix of songs and continue the upward curve of one of the UKs brightest new songwriting talents.
